XR980 was delivered to the RAF in 1964, before retiring to RAF Halton where it was used for instructional purposes and the airframe received the serial 8622M.

In late 1994, XR980 was sold to a private owner her had the aircraft restored to airworthy condition, and took to the skies again on the 3rd June 1999 as NX936FC. Later in the year, she was delivered to her new owner Frank Chiodo - Frank's Italian ancestry explains the unusual Italian colour scheme it now wears! The aircraft was often seen at airshows in the USAI and is pictured above taking off at the New York Airshow in September 2003.

During the year of 2013, XR980 was acquired by ASTRE Air International based in Watkins, Colorado.
