Hunter F.6 XG164 at Davidstow Airfield and Cornwall at War Museum, 11th October 2022; Jake Wallace

XG164 was delivered in late 1956 and had a rather busy life, serving with 111 and 74 Squadrons, the RAF West Raynham Station Flight, the FAA at RNAS Brawdy and later back to the RAF and the TWU. Retiring to the No.1 School of Technical Training based at Halton on the 2nd April 1981, receiving the serial 8681M.

In 1995, she was placed into storage at Shawbury, until being sold in 1996 to Military Aircraft Spares Ltd, who sell MoD surplus spares, based at Poole Industrial Estate between Wellington and Nynehead in Somerset. Here, XG164 was put on display guarding the estate until July 2014, when she was road-moved to the Davidstow Airfield and Cornwall at War Museum. On her arrival, she was looking rather rough, so the museum treated her to a repaint into overall black colours.

Thankfully, the museum managed to get her and their Gannet, XG831, undercover in 2016, giving them a much-needed rest from the British weather. Apart from flat tires, a bit of flaky paintwork in the cockpit, and a damaged nose leg door, XG164 seems to be in good nick.
