Hawker Hunter
Survivor XL578
Privately owned, Kirkstead, Lincolnshire

Hunter T.7 XL578 at Kemble, 17th March 2002; author
Another one previously owned by Delta was XL578, which was used for spares, along with XL586. Once it had lost its usefulness as a 'Christmas tree', the previous idea of a cosmetic restoration went in the bin (plenty of other nicer airframes were available), and she was dumped on her belly in the fire dump/practice area of the airfield. She had been rescued from there and was supposedly under restoration at Wickenby Aerodrome, but in August 2010 she was moved to a private owner at Kirkstead. He intends to put her back together and put her on display in the future.

Information on this page current as of 25/08/2010

DC - great to see it. I live in BOA and pass that way at times. I worked on them at RAF Gutersloh 1966-69 though mainly on FR10s as I was an RAF photographer both in the MFPUs and on 2 and 4 Sqns. Each Sqn had a T7 as well as the FR10s. Brings back good memories!

This aircraft can be found at Wickenby Aerodrome, Lincolnshire. The owner would be interested to know if anyone has the following spare:
Rudder, Nose u/c leg and wheel, Main u/c and wheel units, tail cone, and tailplane.
