Lightning F.52 52-610 at Riyadh, 9th August 2007; Brian Mouat
Built as an F.2 and first flown on 24th April 1962, XN770 was delivered to 33 MU at RAF Lyneham but remained there in storage and was never issued to a frontline squadron. BAC purchased the airframe back and converted her to an F.52 and sold her to the Saudis in May 1966, who initially operated her as 52-656 but later as 52-610.

I was in Khamis from 1972 till 1974 as a very young man,in fact I had my 21st birthday there two weeks after arriving. Some very fond memories of good but hard times and a great bunch of blokes.

I was at Khamis Mushayt in 1970 with Airwork on 53s and 55s before we were sent to Ryadh. These 52 were well established at Khamis then and very busy. A lovely Airbase in those days from my memory. Good luck to all. Bill
