Served with 803 RNAS in HMS Hermes and RNAS Lossiemouth, 1963-65. If they didn't leak fuel, it was time to worry! They were empty!

Nice site,am ex.R.N. not a waffoo, was a Greenie, remember the really tragic event when a scimitar ditched and the pilot could not get the canopy open, can't remember which year.

First cab I worked on after Arbrouth, there were about 6 in short and long term storage ready if needed for Hurn.
To see one go to vertical flight and with no afterburners was something special.
But god, could`nt they leak.

I spent two of my happiest years maintaining the Scimitars of 803 sqdn.aboard 'Victorious' and 'Hermes'from1961-1963,which included the Bullpup misile trials and the extremely warm period in the Persian Gulf('61) when Kassem of Iraq thought he would take Kuwait.
The Scimitar was a great aircaft and when associated with the Sea Vixen a very formidable force existed.

If only somebody had saved a few more of them from the dreaded scrapman!

Well done!
I spent four years of my life servicing these monsters. I remember them with horror and a strange nostalgia. Seeing them in all their different squadron liveries gave me pleasure. Thank you.
