Sea Vixen FAW.1 XJ488 at Robertsbridge, 29th September 2013; Richard E Flagg

Flown as a trials aircraft for all of its life, XJ488 carried out work on all sorts of things from flight refuelling equipment, arrestor barriers, computer trials, Red Top missile development, Bullpup missile recording kit, towed-target winches and ended its active career with the RN Test Squadron on Martel missile trials. Retired by 1972, it ended up on the fire dump at Boscombe Down and was soon reduced to scrap. The cockpit ended up in Marine Salvage's yard near Portsmouth and moved to Robertsbridge via Peter Burton in 1995.
