Another pre-production aircraft, XM708 served with the Handling Squadron and CFS (4 FTS). Retired to instructional use at RAF Halton in 1977, and eventually disposed of to the 'Trout Lake Air Force' at Kings Langley. In early 2003 she was sold to a new owner in Lytham St Annes and is seen shortly after arrival at her new home. Hopefully the owner will get rid of the Red Arrows scheme and return her to 4 FTS colours.

XM 708 was a 'Tinship', as we called them, on the Red Arrows at RAF Kemble. We had a couple of these early A/C which was used to fly spares up to us when we were away from home, and for flying press and other visitors to the Red Arrows. If it was needed, the Wing Commander would fly the spares up to us. They were painted in full Red Arrows colour scheme, the only apparent differences were that they were not converted to have a Coloured Smoke System and did not have the Arrows standard of radios fitted.... read more »read more »

XM708 did serve in Red Arrow colours. It was an extra A/C for the Team and was what we called a 'Tin Ship' because it did not have any of the Arrows Standard modifications - other than it was painted in the Arrows colours.

As an enthusiast of many years I love the Gnat and would like to know if it is possible to buy a ride in one and how much it would cost me?
