Hawker Hunter - Survivor WT799
T.8C WT799 - Blue Lagoon Diving & Leisure Centre (on display), Womersley, Yorkshire
Hunter T.8C WT799 at Womersley, 16th February 2016; Damien Burke
Originally bought as an F.4, WT799 served in RAF Germany and was later converted to a T.8C for service with the RN and FRADU. The Jet Centre at North Weald began a restoration to fly but she then moved on to Classic Jets at Exeter who eventually sold her off to the Blue Lagoon Diving & Leisure Centre, who had planned to submerge her in the lagoon. Happily it looks like the owners changed their minds, instead submerging a considerably less intact Hunter F.6A (XJ639), and WT799 remains above water - for now! Close inspection in early 2016 found her to be missing various panels with the cockpit gutted and corrosion taking hold of the undercarriage. There appears to have been no attempt to even improve her cosmetically since arrival, let alone carry out any restoration work.
