XZ390 first flew on 9th June 1977 and was delivered to RAFG Bruggen the next month, entering service with 31 Squadron, coded 'DM'. She later served with 20 Squadron (coded 'CL') then II(AC) Squadron (coded '35' and later 'DM' once more). She was retired in April 1985 and flown to RAF Shawbury for storage before becoming part of the technical training fleet at RAF Cosford, inevitably nicknamed 'Danger Mouse' due to her 'DM' tail code.
In late November 2024 she was acquired by the Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum and moved to their premises for reassembly and display as part of their new cold war exhibition.
