SEPECAT Jaguar - Survivor XX119
GR.3A XX119 - RAF Lossiemouth (6 Squadron guardian), Moray, Scotland
Jaguar GR.3A XX119 at RAF Lossiemouth, 7th December 2023; RAF Lossiemouth
XX119 was first flown on 5th November 1973 and delivered to the 226 OCU a month later. By 1981 she was with 54 Squadron at RAF Coltishall, coded GC. In March 1983 she was transferred to A&AEE Boscombe Down for some trials work, coded BD - and apparently suffered a gear collapse during that time, with minimal damage. She was back with 226 OCU at RAF Lossiemouth, coded 01, by May 1986. In 1993 she joined 16(R) Squadron, eventually being coded A.
In 1998, she was converted to GR.3 standard and spent some time with the Air Fleet Development unit at Boscombe Down before rejoining the frontliners on 54 Squadron at RAF Coltishall, coded GD. She went on to be converted to a GR.3A but remained with 54 until 2006, when she joined 6 Squadron, coded EB.
With Coltishall's closure, 6 Squadron moved to RAF Coningsby in 2006. XX119 had the honour of being painted in this very special scheme to mark the end of the Jaguar in RAF service, and was the last RAF Jaguar to retire, landing at RAF Cosford on 2nd July 2007. Affectionately nicknamed 'Spotty', and initially retained in running condition to train recruits in marshalling skills, she was soon relegated to static ground instructional duties.
Over the course of 2023, RAF Cosford had slowly begun to thin out some of their hangars to make room for some Typhoons that will be used within the training school. XX119 was one of several Jaguars that year which moved on to pastures new. On the 7th of December 2023, 'Spotty' arrived at RAF Lossiemouth after embarking on a 450-mile road trip, where she will be re-assembled and go on display as a gate guardian with 6 Squadron.
