English Electric Lightning - Survivor XR771
F.6 XR771 - Midland Air Museum, Coventry Airport, Warwickshire
Lightning F.6 XR771 at Midland Air Museum, 14th May 2022; Jake Wallace
XR771 first flew on 6 20th January 1966 and served with 74, 56, 5 and 11 Squadrons and ended her career with 5 Squadron at RAF Binbrook.
Her final flight was from Binbrook to Baginton for delivery to the Midland Air Museum on 23rd March 1988. By 2000 her paintwork had become very faded but thankfully so in late 2002, she was fully repainted. But it didn't take long for her paintwork to fade yet again. XR771 is starting to look a little unloved today, with a fair amount of corrosion on the airframe, from which some of the spine panels are really suffering from. Hopefully, it won't be too long before she can recieve some attention again.
