English Electric Lightning - Survivor XR759
F.6 XR759 - Glenn Edwards, North Weald, Essex
Lightning F.6 XR759 at RAF Binbrook, Summer 1981; Phil Bradshaw
After retirement, XR759 was sadly scrapped, however the cockpit section was saved and was transported to a private owner in Haxey, Lincolnshire. The cockpit sat in their garden for several years until it was put up for sale in August 2020. The interior was in a fairly poor state with no front panels fitted at all, the canopy was starting to fade but the exterior seemed to be in fairly good condition.
It didn't take long before the cockpit was sold to Glenn Edwards who transported it to North Weald in September 2020 for restoration. XR759 is now undercover and receiving a repaint!
