English Electric Lightning - Survivor 'XM171'
Simulator XM171 - Farnborough Air Sciences Trust (cockpit), Farnborough, Hampshire
Lightning Simulator XM171 at Farnborough, 16th October 2008; Damien Burke
Well, I've given this one the serial XM171 as that's what's stencilled on the top of the ejector seat - which, along with the canopy and windscreen, is about the only real part of Lightning to be found here in this mostly plastic simulator. Used at the FAST museum to mount a PC flight simulator, I'm not sure of the exhibit's history and presume it was at one point a procedures trainer, but not, it appears, ever part of a real Lightning?
