Supermarine Swift - Survivor WK277
FR.5 WK277 - Newark Air Museum, Winthorpe, Nottinghamshire
Swift FR.5 WK277 at Newark Air Museum, 23rd June 2019; Jake Wallace
This is WK277, one of the only two Swift FR.5s to have been preserved. WK277 was at one time going to be converted into a jet car to make an attempt on the world land speed record! Out in the open at the Newark Air Museum for many years and looking dented and faded, the former no doubt from her time as an instructional airframe at RAF Cosford, the latter from the long exposure to the elements, thankfully in 2005 she was moved under cover and repainted. She now looks superb - and will stay that way. The photo above is shows how she is today, still looking as if she was painted yesterday!
