Supermarine Swift - Survivor Simulator
FR.5 Simulator - Newark Air Museum, Winthorpe, Nottinghamshire
Swift FR.5 Simulator at Newark, 13th March 2008; Damien Burke
A somewhat more sophisticated simulator than the similar sim to be found at Solent Sky, this one has a control panel which enabled instructors to dial in a variety of faults for the pilot to deal with. Unfortunately little information has survived on this simulator - even whether it was based on a real airframe's nose, or built specifically as a sim. My personal suspicion is that this was a purpose-built cockpit procedures trainer, as the exterior control panel bears a great deal of similarity to that on a similar trainer for the Scimitar built by F. G. Miles Ltd. in the late 1950s.
