Avro Vulcan - Survivor XL426
B.2 XL426 - Vulcan Restoration Trust (taxiable), Southend Airport, Essex
Vulcan B.2 XL426 at Southend, 17th February 2018; Steve Tron
Above is XL426 at Southend Airport. XL426 was initially bought by the same person who bought XM655 from the MoD; it was after getting hold of XL426 that XM655 was pushed aside. Unfortunately much the same then happened to XL426, and she too eventually passed onto new owners.
Now she is in the care of the Vulcan Restoration Trust who brought her back to life, keeping her in running order, and regularly taxied her until it became necessary to take her offline for some time to carry out much-needed restoration work.
The Return to Power project was underway and progressed nicely! In the last year or so, XL426 got back out on the runway after this project was complete, and for most of 2021 has been performing almost monthly fast taxi events to the public! The photo above shows the airframe lit up after dark in its very smart and shiny paint scheme!
