English Electric Canberra - Survivor WT537
PR.7 WT537 - Koropi Kalivia (Stored), Greece
Canberra PR.7 WT537 at Samlesbury, 1980; Shaun Connor
WT537 was collected by the RAF in December 1955 and went into service with 17 Sqd at RAFG Wahn. Later she was transferred to and flew with 31 Sqd at RAFG Laarbruch. She was then transferred again, this time to sunnier climes going to 13 Sqd. She may have joined 13 Sqd while they were at RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus, but would have been with them when they were based at RAF Luqa, Malta. WT537 moved with 13 Sqd to their final base at RAF Wyton in October 1978.
In November 1981 (a month before 13 Sqd was disbanded), WT537 was sold to the British Aircraft Corporation where she was probably stored and then refurbished. She was made the Gate Guard at Samlesbury where she was in a fairly poor state. There was either a crack in the canopy or the canopy seal as the cockpit had been filling up with water.
In October 2009, WT537 was sold and moved to the Millom Museum. She spent her entire time here disassembled, receiving very little TLC. Unfortunately, the museum collapsed around 2012, the airframe was sold and exported to Greece where she was to be restored and put on display, however, this doesn't seem to have happened yet.
