WH863 was built as a B.2 and was awaiting collection on 29th May 1953, going onto CSE charge for the Institute of Aviation Medicine. She carried out high altitude trials involving onboard fires, and in March 1957 was returned to English Electric for ECM trials. By July 1963 she was with the A&AEE and then returned to EE (now BAC) for modifications. In 1966 she was converted to a T.17 and at last entered joint RAF/RN service with 360 Squadron.
Retired in 1981, she was struck off charge on 29th May 1981 and became a battle damage repair training airframe at RAF Marham, where she was finally scrapped in 1990. The nose section was saved as is now on display at the Newark Air Museum.
