English Electric Canberra - Survivor WH957
E.15 WH957 - Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, East Kirkby, Lincolnshire
Canberra E.15 WH957 at Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, 6th August 2016; Richard E Flagg
Built as a B.2 and delivered to the RAF in February 1955, WH957 served with 617, 542 and 21 Squadrons before being converted to B.15 standard, going on to serve with 32 and 98 Squadrons. Losing her bomber fit and being converted to an E.15, she served her remaining days with 98 and 100 Squadrons.
The airframe was transferred to No.2 School of Technical Training at RAF Cosford as 8869M in the 1980s. Once Cosford no longer need WH957 she was put up for sale in 1991. In 1992, Phonix Aviation based at Bruntingthorpe purchased the Canberra but sadly reduced her to a cockpit section which was then transported to Bruntingthorpe. The cockpit didn't stay at Bruntingthorpe very long before being sold on to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre in 1993. The cockpit of WH957 can still be seen on display at the museum today in good condition.
